The Brazilian side recently opened negotiations with the 33-year-old, but it has been reported they will only sign him if Arsenal release him from his contract, allowing for a free transfer.

However, talks between the Italy international and Flamengo have hit a snag, reports, with the defensive midfielder demanding too much in terms of salary. Meanwhile, Arsenal – who see him as a leader in the group – are hopeful of signing him to a one-year extension, which would keep him tied to the north London team until the summer of 2026.
