da leao: Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi is edging closer to a move away from the club after Sevilla tabled an improved bid, reports the Daily Mail.
What’s the word?
da prosport bet: The 23-year-old joined the Midlands outfit from Nice in 2015, but after a promising start, his importance to the team dwindled.
That was largely down to a knee ligament injury, which forced him out of action for a lengthy spell after making just 12 appearances.
Last season, Amavi started 26 Championship games and came off the bench in a further eight.
He produced one assist, but struggled to earn regular game time under manager Steven Bruce.
The Daily Mail claims that Villa tuned down an initial £5.2m bid from Sevilla last week, but the Spanish outfit have now offered £6.2m plus £1.8m in add-ons.
Is it bad business?
The publication claims that the Midlands club parted with £9m to sign the left-back two years ago.
That means that the club will be taking a £1m hit if they sell him on the terms offered by Sevilla.
If Villa are keen to get him off the wage bill, then losing £1m is not the end of the world.
The club may be kicking themselves for not offloading Amavi in January following reports that an unnamed Chinese Super League club offered £25m.
At the time, Villa owner Tony Xia confirmed on Twitter that the bid had been rejected.
In hindsight, perhaps he should have snapped their hand off.
