Sir Alex Ferguson has targeted Mathieu Debuchy to fill United’s right back berth, according to the Metro.
Despite reports that the Manchester United boss was in Lyon to watch Eden Hazard, it was in fact his Lille teammate Debuchy that was the reason for Fergie’s presence at the Stade de Gerland last weekend.
Fergie has struggled to fill the right back spot since Gary Neville’s retirement, and with injury forcing Rafael out of the picture, leaving Phil Jones and Chris Smalling as a temporary stop gap, the Scot is looking to bring in another recognised full-back to the squad.
The French international has been in fine form for Lille this season and it was reportedly his performance in France’s recent win against Germany that has attracted a firm interest of Fergie among others.
The 26yr-old is no shortage of suitors, with Bayern Munich and Valencia among the interested suitors, therefore the Red Devils will face some stiff competition for his signature in the summer.
