Leeds United are keeping tabs on Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick ahead of a potential move, according to the Birmingham Mail.
What’s the story?
Elphick has only been part of the Midlands club for a year, but the arrival of John Terry at Villa Park pours his future into doubt.
Due to the new signing’s experience and success at Chelsea, he is likely to win a starting spot in Steve Bruce’s side.
The Birmingham Mail claims that Leeds have expressed an interest in Elphick as a result of his likely drop in the pecking order.
The publication suggests that Sunderland are hopeful of making the first move with a bid, while Birmingham City are also keen.
Is Elphick a good fit for Leeds?
The Whites are in need of some reinforcements in defence, and the 29-year-old could be a very good option for head coach Thomas Christiansen.
If the club want to launch a serious promotion bid, then having experienced and confident members in the back line is crucial.
Elphick understands the Championship and he was part of the Bournemouth side that against all odds, secured a place in the Premier League in 2015.
Last season, the centre-back featured in just over half (26) of Villa’s Championship fixtures, but he is certainly a decent option to have in the ranks.
However, Leeds look as though they face competition from fellow league rivals, so small margins could be the difference between getting a deal done or missing out.
