The winter transfer window is rarely a dull affair, even if it’s often less exciting than its sister version in the summer. But rest assured rumours will swirl around from the get-go as teams scrap for every advantage they can get in a bid to make a success of their respective campaigns.
In the Premier League, the battling is as fierce as ever, with an open race for the Champions League emerging amid the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United all underperforming, while Chelsea have joined Arsenal in trying to create something of a title race which is looking increasingly one-sided thanks to Liverpool.
At the other end, Southampton are in danger of setting all the wrong kinds of records given their lowly points haul at the halfway stage, while fellow promoted side Ipswich Town may need a miracle or two in the second half of the season to stay up themselves.
All this means a potentially frantic rush to bolster squads as suspensions hit and injuries bite ahead of a packed start to 2025 – particularly for those in European and cup contention.
With the deadline almost upon us, there is still plenty of activity to be had. Keep up to date with every deadline-day move with our club-by-club guide.
Winter transfer window 2025: All the latest deals from England and Scotland
Find out who is on the move this winter with our comprehensive list of done deals from the Premier League, EFL and Scottish Premiership.
ByStephan GeorgiouFeb 3, 2025 Arsenal Total spent: £0
There has been a lot of attention on Arsenal as their title bid hangs in the balance heading into February, potentially prompting a frantic rush to the transfer market with the Gunners seemingly on the lookout for a goalscorer.
With a similar series of shortcomings to last year threatening to rear its head, Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a miracle or two on the injury front to get their campaign truly back on track.
However, thus far, no new players have come through the door in N5, and with only a week to go before the window shuts, the pressure is on Arteta and the Kroenkes to give the squad what it needs to see out a successful season.

5 players who could leave Arsenal this January
A number of players could be on the move this winter…
ByDominic LundJan 17, 2025 Aston Villa Total spent: £27.4m
Aston Villa made the Premier League’s first major January splurge as they spent an initial £19m on Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen. In a deal which could rise to £21.5m with add-ons, the transfer sees Malen return to England having previously been a member of Arsenal’s youth team.
The Dutchman’s arrival will pose fresh questions over Jhon Duran’s future, with the Villa super-sub rumoured to be on the move this summer before starting the season in red-hot form.
There could yet be more additions before the month is out as Unai Emery continues to shape his squad ahead of the Champions League knockout stages.

6 players who could join or leave Aston Villa in January
Aston Villa will be aiming to make a few signings and sell some players this January.
ByRoss KilvingtonJan 9, 2025 Bournemouth Total spent: £17.41m
Bournemouth’s promising campaign to date will surely have Andoni Iraola pretty pleased with the current makeup of his squad. However, he has dipped into the transfer market, bringing in Julio Soler from Argentinian side Lanus in early January.
Soler has only had 90 minutes in a Cherries shirt thus far, playing the full game in their 5-1 win over West Brom in the FA Cup. Meanwhile, fellow arrival Matai Akinmboni is yet to make his debut following his switch from D.C. United.
Philip Billing became Bournemouth’s most high-profile departure of the window as he sealed a loan move to Napoli, while defender Max Aarons has joined La Liga strugglers Valencia until the end of the season.

Brentford Total spent: £0
Brentford are enjoying another stable Premier League campaign, with the Bees’ impressive home form providing the foundation for a steady season with no fears over relegation.
Still intent on ending the year on a high, Thomas Frank has brought in promising young defender Michael Kayode from Fiorentina, with his loan deal including an option for him to become a permanent Brentford player in the summer.
It has otherwise been a low-key window for the west Londoners, who have also seen a raft of fringe players go out on loan.

Brighton & Hove Albion Total spent: £40.8m
Brighton made the first big deal of the January window, albeit through their agreement to sign midfielder Diego Gomez in December. They will pay MLS side Inter Miami £11m for the Paraguayan, who becomes Fabian Hurzeler’s first signing of the winter.
The Seagulls have had some promising results in the opening half of the Premier League season, so their placing of 10th heading into 2025 is somewhat underwhelming.
However, they remain firmly in the race to return to European football at the first time of asking under their new head coach, who has overseen victories over Man City and Spurs in his opening months at the helm.

Chelsea Total spent: £12m
With another spending spree in the summer, the fact that Chelsea have been quiet this January will surprise few. Their most high-profile activity to date has been Renato Veiga’s loan departure to Juventus, while the future of Joao Felix remains uncertain late in the window.
Considering the Blues have exceeded pre-season expectations, you would understand Enzo Maresca’s reluctance to make too many changes to his squad as they chase a Champions League berth and Conference League glory this term.
They will also have to be wary of PSR constraints, and if they are to splash the cash once again next summer, perhaps a more frugal approach this winter is just what they need amid an impressive first half of the campaign.

7 players Chelsea could sell in January
Who could be off in the winter window as Enzo Maresca tinkers with his squad?
ByBarney LaneJan 2, 2025 Crystal Palace Total spent: £14.5m
Crystal Palace spent big to sign Romain Esse from fellow south Londoners Millwall, with the teenager grabbing his first goal in Eagles colours during their recent defeat to Brentford.
Oliver Glasner’s side have largely recovered from a poor start to the campaign to steer clear of relegation bother, so the Austrian may be content with his squad as they appear set to comfortably secure another season in the top flight.

Everton Total spent: £0
Everton have been rejuvenated since the return of long-time manager David Moyes, with results on the pitch improving and relegation concerns easing after a transformative few weeks at Goodison Park.
Their transfer activity has been less hectic, though have been reported to be close to announcing a loan deal for former Southampton ace Carlos Alcaraz, who is currently on the books at Brazilian side Flamengo.
Whatever they do between now and the deadline, their finest signing looks set to be Toffees legend Moyes.

Fulham Total spent: £0
Fulham have had a quiet window this winter, but with another impressive campaign underway and a European place potentially up for grabs, Marco Silva will surely be keen not to break what doesn’t need fixing.
Indeed, the club’s only transfer activity since the new year has come in the form of youngster Olly Sanderson’s loan switch to League Two side Harrogate Town, with few murmurings of a late flurry as we approach the end of the window.

Ipswich Town Total spent: £25m
Ipswich Town may be among the favourites to go down, but they certainly won’t be going down with a whimper – particularly if their January business is anything to go by.
After failing to secure a deal in the summer, the Tractor Boys reignited their interest in ex-Hull City star Jaden Philogene as his move back to Aston Villa went stale. Kieran McKenna will hope it is £20m well spent, while his other recruits this month have seen him bring in more top-flight experience.
Ben Godfrey has temporarily returned from Serie A outfit Atalanta, with the former Everton ace bolstering the East Anglians’ defence. Julio Enciso has had a tricky time of late with injuries, and amid a lack of opportunities under Fabian Hurzeler at Brighton, the Paraguayan has sealed a switch to Portman Road until the end of the season.
